The Acts describesapostles' "experiences” at the first Pentecost as “sober drunkenness”, to wit,“the sober Intoxication of the Spirit” (For these are not drunken, as ye suppose; seeingit is but the third hour of the day. Acts 2:15). It is indeed a Christian* (*mind Christian hereis not an ecumenical term!) tradition, that to be overwhelmed and rejoiced inthe power of the Lord. Even in the time of Old Covenant, our weeping prophetreported that “I became like a man who is drunk, like someone sodden with wine, from my encounter with the words of God” (Jer. 23:9).  In the middle age, a Dominican contemplative nun Bl. Margaret Ebner (1291-1351) recorded how she was clapping hands and laughing as drunkardwith a dying nun, whom was filled with the spirit of joy for soon she’ll sing praises to G/d in heaven. This kind of “experience”, which maybe properly called “ecstasy”, is not unheard in the medieval world. Saint Denis theCarthusian (1402–1471) is entitled “Doctor of Ecstasy”, due to his frequent and fierce “experiences” of being “captured by the Spirit”. However, no hagiographies ever mention any groups or communities gather together purposely praying for having such “experience” or “ecstasy”. Apostles at Pentecost were not praying to speak in tongues, slain in spirit, communicate with snakes orany sort of “experiences". Actually, they have no ideas what would befall on them. Note also this phenomenon of “appeared drunkenness” only occured during the first Pentecost, nowhere else in the Acts has our beloved Saint Luke mentioned similar things. when Saint Paul was “slayed down in spirit” by our Lord at his conversion, he didn't jump up and scream in Mandarin Chinese. Instead, this direct encounter with Christ and the Holy Spirit inspired a deep humility andawe in his soul. It enkindled a lasting fire which burns with temperance, prudence, endurance and charity.  love is long suffering, it’s notmood-swings or rapid electric sparks one can switch on and off. As Saint Paul himself puts it: the fruit of the spirit is charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty,self-control, and chastity (Gal. 5:22-23). Please mark: self-control and modesty.

The object of the faith is the truth, which is in G/d (no, we are not going to wrest with Franciscan school today), so as the end of our prayers and Christian gatherings. We pray for the Spirit, so that through this Spirit we may reachthe Father, which is the finality of every human being. If this “Spirit” or“ecstasy” cannot help us being a better Christian, holier and happier, and baring good fruits in our daily life, what’s the point of having it? Additional, here is a personal opinion: if one cannot be spiritual satisfied by a good mass (I mean a GOOD mass, opus operatum and opus operantis), this person would not be pleased even having the beatific vision on earth. Please consider it: what miracle, what visions, what “experiences” can be moreextraordinary, more powerful, more wonderful than the Word become flesh anddwell in us?

In modern world, we have too much stimulations in our daily lives than before. This may make people insensitive and unsatisfied to normal experiences, so they will seek and create fiercer stimulations, which will harm their sensory receptions and make themchained slaves to senses that they will ever seek stronger stimulations in turn (it’s like the theory that the popularity of internet porn and masturbation has slowly destroyed modern men’s marriage life).

there will be many things emerging in the future, there will be more abortions, more mercy-death, more“queers” and more secularization, also in the future there will be a thingcalled anti-Christ with a false church which will convert the majority, shallwe follow them all?
